Meal Packing Event
United Against Hunger is United Way of the Kearney Area's first ever meal packing event which will provide 51,000 meals for people in the Kearney area. The event will take place on August 8th at the First Presbyterian Church in Kearney.
This event will ensure that 1200 families receive nutritious meals including macaroni and cheese, pasta and oatmeal. Each meal contains all of the nutrition and protein necessary, and the only additional ingredient required is water to make a healthy, wholesome meal. Meals will be distributed to local food pantries including: Jubilee Center, StoreHouse, Gibbon Free Pantry, United Way Little Free Pantries, Community Action Mobile Produce Pantries, Gibbon Little Free Pantries, and at an upcoming resource fair being put on by United Way in conjunction with NPPD and several other local nonprofits.

Bring a team of people or sign up on your own! Families are welcome, too.
Together, we will be making bags of macaroni and cheese, pasta and oatmeal which will be assembled into Pantry Packs and distributed to food pantries around Kearney.

Ways to donate
You can help make this event possible by making a monetary donation, donating (two) hotel rooms for our vendor facilitating the event, or providing bottles of water or meals for our volunteers. Contact Savannah@uwka.org for more information.
Details:
Set up will begin at 9:30am as we prepare for our volunteers to arrive. Table Captains will arrive at 11am.
Food packing will take place on Friday, August 8 from 1- 8pm at First Presbyterian Church in Kearney. (4511 6th Ave) The work will be divided into three shifts: 1-3pm, 3-5pm and 6:30-8pm.
The afternoon shifts will package raw materials into bags. The evening shifts will pack the sealed bags into boxes called pantry packs for distribution to the local food pantries.
What is a TABLE CAPTAIN?
A Table Captain is in charge of setting up and overseeing their table. They will arrive early to receive training, and then be responsible to coach their assigned table when volunteers arrive.
Can I sign up a group?
Yes! In fact, we recommend coming with a group of coworkers or friends! When you sign up, sign up at the same station or have one person complete the sign up for everyone in the group.
Can I sign up for more than one shift?
Yes! Absolutely. You are welcome to hang out with us all day if you can!
Where are the Pantry Packs going?
The Pantry Packs will be distributed to local food pantries including Jubilee Center, StoreHouse, Gibbon Free Pantry, United Way Free Little Pantries, and more. In total more than 1200 Pantry Packs will be assembled!
