Community Impact Grant
INTRODUCTION
The purpose of the Community Impact Grant Program is to fund programs that address issues in the areas of EDUCATION, INCOME and HEALTH.
NATIONAL GOALS FOR THE COMMON GOOD
For many millions of hard-working families, the basic ingredients for a good life are increasingly beyond reach. Almost one in four working parents doesn’t earn enough to provide for their families. An alarming 25 percent of teenagers will not graduate on time, imperiling their chances to make a successful transition to adulthood. Only one in three adults can be considered healthy, based on risk factor date from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and more than 49 million Americans lack even basic health insurance.
United Way of the Kearney Area’s Community Impact Grants should provide opportunities for non-profit entities in Buffalo, Phelps, Kearney, Franklin, Harlan, and Custer Counties to fund creative programs to:
-
Improve people’s health
-
Help people achieve a quality education and/or
-
Provide programs to improve people’s financial stability.
The Community Impact Grants are a one-year demonstration grant, or pilot project to encourage entities to develop new and innovative ways to improve people’s lives and/or change community conditions. Results of the one-year program will be measured, tracked and reported to the United Way.
Other considerations for funding include, but are not limited to the following:
- Projects with measureable outcomes that are clearly identified and have tracking methods to measure results
- Projects that will secure other funds either grant or direct contributions, matching grants or in-kind support.
- Proposals which maximize resources, coordinate efforts, and work with local partners to achieve goals,
- Projects not duplicated by other service/programs currently available.
- Projects which utilize volunteers and demonstrate identifiable support from the community.
Items that will not be considered for Community Impact funding:
- Direct financial assistance to individuals or families (unless special circumstances warrant).
- Capital expenditures unless there is evidence of a critical need for the item for program services.
- Grants/stipends to conduct or for individuals to attend conferences, seminars, and workshops.
- Audits
- Other items deemed inappropriate by the United Way of the Kearney Area Board of Directors.
